"Up in the Air" At Telluride

By Chase Kahn

Jason Reitman's Up in the Air just screened at the Telluride Film Festival and early word on the film going in was that it was a terrific, pitch-perfect comedy and Reitman's (Juno, Thank You For Smoking) best. Well, Incontention's Kris Tapley just tapped out a quick praise of the film, calling it a "four-star knockout" and Reitman's most personal work to date.

The comedy about a corporate downsizing expert whose profession and way of life is threatened by new-age technology stars George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick and Jason Bateman.

is also now reporting that Up In the Air has a 12.04.09 release date. Remember that Paramount is distributing the film domestically and that their impending release of the Reitman comedy was thought to have influenced heavily on their decision to delay Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island to February 2010.

  1. I don't think it'll happen but I'd absolutely love to see a comedy win best picture. Don't ask me why but I think if a blockbuster or a comedy can sneak in one year and win best picture it'd renew a lot of social love for the Oscars among the younger generation. Don't get me wrong I think lots of the films people my age (22), and younger, love are stupid... but in 20-30 years they'll be at the peak Oscar audience age and years of feeling left out won't help much.

  2. This is one of the few movies I'm really jazzed about seeing later this year. From what I'm hearing, it's a comedy with more significant undercurrents -- a very personal film, so I think it's looking good in the early stages.

Plus "Slumdog Millionaire" played at Telluride and rode that all the way to BEST PICTURE...
